Director’s Message

Osaka University Dental Hospital was established in 1953 as the first national university dental hospital in western Japan. Based on the philosophy of "promoting education and research in oral medicine through medical treatment and contributing to the development of oral health care", the hospital is the only independent hospital affiliated with a national university dental school and contributes to the development of dental care in Japan as well as local medical care.

Osaka University School of Dentistry has promoted interdisciplinary research under the "Challenge to Intractable Oral Diseases" project and has achieved results in research leading to the identification of the causes and treatment of oral diseases. The results of this research have led to new and advanced dental treatments at the Hospital attached to the School of Dentistry. There have been advances in regenerative medicine, treatment of oral cancer, intractable dental diseases, treatment of cleft lip and palate, implant treatment and the development of dental materials, enhancing the hospital's function as a last resort for the mouth. In recent years, in collaboration with research institutions and companies within and outside the University, as well as within the Department, we have been digitizing dental treatment and introducing AI and IT to create a new medical environment and support diagnosis. In addition, we are also working on the next generation of dental care using genomic information and big data in medical treatment. In addition, we will continue to promote such medical treatment. We remain dedicated to advancing research and development in medical care. To further these medical treatments and research efforts, human resource development is paramount. The Osaka University School of Dentistry Hospital is focused on creating medical care solutions that will benefit future society and on nurturing outstanding dental professionals who will be pivotal in the years to come.
